PMGKAY scheme: Give free ration
With the country battling a second wave of covid 19, at least three state governments and several Opposition MPs have urged the Centre to start a free foodgrain scheme for the poor on the lines of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), announced last year when the first wave of the infection was at its peak.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the extension of the PMGKAY till the end of November to provide free ration to the poor ration cardholders to help them cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, while many have benefitted there are few glitches that need ironing out
PMGKAY has been able to offer help to the poor especially those who lost livelihood during the lockdown. It has also provided relief to those families in rural areas that have one or more migrant returnees as Pankaj says,
